Many people have asked about my intentions behind my Love Katy project. I think this has changed considerably as the project has evolved. Originally I wanted to challenge the notion that HNW must only be about void worship and nihilism. It was (and often is still) associated with images of violence and gore. This confused me, as to me, there is nothing violent or aggressive about HNW. In fact I find it very calming and contemplative.
With LK I chose the most non-threatening, colorful and non-stereotypical form possible e.g. Katy Perry!!! In short my original concept was a parody of the then current state of HNW.
Now step forward a few years and things have changed a bit (although some old practices to remain). Love Katy to me is not a vehicle for parody anymore. I use it to show my genuine love and admiration (idol worship I guess, NOT obsession, as that is dark and ugly) for Katy Perry. I celebrate her pop genius (her music is very good) and her beauty through the walls that I craft. Her lyrics also say a lot, and they often mirror my emotions and shape the mood of the release.
These might sound like the ramblings of a hysterical loon, but above all I make Love Katy because it is fun. I like pop music, I like bright colorful things, I like beautiful women and I love noise, why not combine it together and celebrate it!!
With the above in mind, I invited some friends and fellow artists in the HNW scene to remix some of my earlier Love Katy material. The results were varied, and each artist added their own unique take on HNW to their mix. A big THANK YOU to all those involved, and I hope you enjoy the tracks!
